The Best Southern New Year's Day Meal for Prosperity

Hey y’all! We are coming up fast to a brand New Year. Here in the South (Western Kentucky for me) if you are going to prosper in the New Year there are some very important steps to follow. Most importantly, you just gotta eat the traditional New Year’s Day meal for prosperity. It’s supposed to guarantee wealth, health and prosperity in the New Year.

Heck, if anything it’s a fantastic meal. And who knows, you might just have the best New Year ever! Oh, and be sure to check out my post of awesome appetizers for a New Year’s Bash!

And this is the Most Awesome New Year’s Day Meal, in my humble opinion.

You definitely need to have black-eyed peas or Hoppin’ John (oh my Yum), hog jowl, turnip greens or cabbage either boiled or fried, and a yummy Southern corn bread. I was a little skeptical of the hog jowl the first time I had it but it’s quite tasty. Just don’t break a tooth, lol, sometimes it’s cooked pretty tough. Don’t let that deter you, just take it slow and chew accordingly.

Along with the food there are plenty of ways to flavor things to suit your personal tastes. Such as: chow chow, hot sauce, fresh sliced onion, jalapenos…I’m sure there are other ideas out there but those are some of the ones I’ve heard my friends mention. I could seriously eat my weight in fried potatoes with onions and corn bread with butter if I wanted to, lol, but I rein myself in.

I have collected the recipes from some of the best bloggers I know of and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. At the very least this is a guide for the foods that are recommended for a great year! Heck, might as well take a chance at the least you’ll have a great meal and at the best it might actually work out for you!

Check out this yummy looking food! I seriously can’t wait. I enjoy my New Year’s Day meal at the local Elks’ Lodge with friends that are like family, there are some amazing cooks there and the fellowship is the best. One of their mottos is “Elks Care, Elks Share” and it’s the truth. If you ever have a chance to join an Elks’ Lodge, do it, they do so many great things in the communities they serve.
